MONAS or National Monument at night.

Okay, let me be clear . . . Jakarta, Indonesia is very, very hot and humid; the traffic is unbelievably congested; there is way too much poverty, which in fairness, is contrasted by an emerging middle class; and the population is a staggering 10,000,000 souls (28 million if you count the suburbs). Yikes! Not much to like in my opinion. Nevertheless, I did enjoy 5 things: 1. My friend Tia, who was my guide during this trip; 2. Indonesian food is delicious; 3. The plentiful shopping malls; 4. Seeing where Barack Obama went to elementary school; and, 5. The outsanding museums.   Continue reading →

I have never been a fashionista (or is it “fashion maven?”). To wit, I usually discover a fashion trend 5-10 years after it has left the proverbial train station. Sheesh, you’re talking about someone who’s ex-wife picked out his clothes. Same deal with this evening’s subject matter – traffic and food. Umm, they don’t go together, nor do they complement each other. However, I keep getting asked about what I am eating in Kathmandu and I decided to “marry” that subject with traffic. Especially since I was almost killed at least a half dozen times today, as both a pedestrian and a passenger in a taxi. Continue reading →

Wiped Out By The LA To Fiji Island Flight

Hello everyone! I arrived safely, but quite tired. However, they do feed ya and water ya on these “cattle car” flights (albeit, not the greatest food in the world). Anywho, my tablet is dead to the world (battery is low) and am getting charged a gazillion somallions (or whatever the Fiji currency is) in Fiji land.  Coffee is about $10 a cup . . . yes, I said cup.  No idea if that is standard outside this airport. I can only guess that they don’t grow coffee here, so like a lot of things, it gets quite expensive to ship stuff here.

I will have more, with pictures, after I get my tablet’s battery charged, so stay tuned . . . Same bat channel, same bat time (maybe).
