This is a short video of a fumarole. Fumaroles, or steam vents, are the hottest hydrothermal features in the park. They have so little water that it all flashes into steam before reaching the surface. At places like Roaring Mountain, the result is a lot of hissing of steam and gases.

This is a video that Jeremy took while we were watching the fireworks at the Bozeman, Montana county fair grounds. Frankly, this was one of the best fireworks displays I have ever seen. Certainly, it was the longest (almost an hour). In the background, you can hear America The Beautiful by Ray Charles (tape). Awesome!

I have been remiss in keeping up this blog the last couple of weeks. However, I sort of have an excuse, as I was waiting on some photos from Jeremy, whom I traveled with to Canada and a few places in the Western United States during the 4th of July weekend.

Lake Louise.

Jeremy and I didn’t stay too long in Banff, playing tourists for a day and a half. We did stay to enjoy Canada Day – where Canadians celebrate the unification of their provinces. As I mentioned in my last post, the locals had a very good fireworks display late in the evening (11pm). Afterwards, we experienced a little bit of the night life, visiting a couple of night clubs before calling it a night. The next morning we fueled up with coffee and hiked Johnston Canyon, enjoying the spectacular lower and upper falls. Upon finishing the hike, we headed in a Westerly direction, our intent was to visit Lake Louise. We arrived at mid-afternoon, and before visiting the lake, we had lunch at a delicatessen.

It’s amazing that Jeremy and I crossed the border into Canada, much less reached our destination of Banff. Why? Umm, well Mr. “World Traveler” forgot his damn passport. OH OH! It seems that the Canadian immigration services have a couple of issues when you do that. However, charm, good looks, and being very, very circumspect about answering their questions won the day and after an hour wait at the border, I was able to convince Canadian authorities that I was not a terrorist planning my next gig in their fair country.

Little Big Horn Battlefield National Historic Site, Montana

Jeremy and I had traveled about 500 miles from our origination point of Lakewood, Colorado (10am to 6pm), when we saw a sign indicating that the Little Big Horn Battlefield National Historic Site was approximately 5 miles away. It didn’t take much coaxing to convince Jeremy to take a break from driving and visit this historical landmark. These are the photos I took there:
